Topography, Diversity, and Forest Structure Attributes Drive Aboveground Carbon Storage in Different Forest Types in Northeast China

چکیده

Forests regulate air quality and respond to climate change by storing carbon. Assessing the driving factors of forest aboveground carbon (AGC) storage is great importance for management. We assumed that different types would affect relationship between species richness, stand density, individual tree size variation, AGC. In order test verify it, we analyzed inventory data 206 fixed plots (20 m × 20 m) Jingouling Forest Farm, taking advantage piecewise structural equation model (pSEM) explore effects diversity, structure attributes, topography on AGC in Wangqing Jilin Province. addition, this study, aimed investigate whether (species topography) influenced more significantly than random factor (forest type). According results pSEM, selected jointly explain impact 33% storage. The density positive, variation negative. Species richness has direct indirect impacts storage, significant through variation. Both elevation slope are negatively associated with type explains 12% which means predictors varies across types. provide a scientific basis protection management decision natural forests northeastern China.

Species loss and aboveground carbon storage in a tropical forest.

Tropical forest biodiversity is declining, but the resulting effects on key ecosystem services, such as carbon storage and sequestration, remain unknown. We assessed the influence of the loss of tropical tree species on carbon storage by simulating 18 possible extinction scenarios within a well-studied 50-hectare tropical forest plot in Panama, which contains 227 tree species. Among extinction ...

Species Diversity of Trees and Forest Floor Plants in Oriental beech Forest Types of Shastkalate Educational and Research Forest, Gorgan)

Trees are the most important biological elements of forest ecosystems. The variability of the tree species composition inhabiting in the Oriental beech forest, not only forms different forest types but also has a remarkable impact on the species diversity of forest floor plants, due to the existence of trees in the overstory layer. In this research, forest types of an an Oriental beech were ide...

Tree aboveground carbon storage correlates with environmental gradients and functional diversity in a tropical forest

Tropical forests play a disproportionately important role in the global carbon (C) cycle, but it remains unclear how local environments and functional diversity regulate tree aboveground C storage. We examined how three components (environments, functional dominance and diversity) affected C storage in Dinghushan 20-ha plot in China. There was large fine-scale variation in C storage. The three ...

Estimates of Forest Biomass Carbon Storage in Liaoning Province of Northeast China: A Review and Assessment

Accurate estimates of forest carbon storage and changes in storage capacity are critical for scientific assessment of the effects of forest management on the role of forests as carbon sinks. Up to now, several studies reported forest biomass carbon (FBC) in Liaoning Province based on data from China's Continuous Forest Inventory, however, their accuracy were still not known. This study compared...

Carbon Storage and Allocation Pattern in Plant Biomass among Different Forest Plantation Stands in Guangdong, China

In order to understand how carbon storage and allocation patterns vary among plantation types, we estimated carbon allocation between aboveand below-ground compartments in four subtropical plantations and a naturally recovered shrubland (as a control). Results indicated that the carbon storage and allocation pattern varied greatly among forest types and was highly dependent on specific traits o...
